General Instructions for Charts.

• When filling in both charts, use these guidelines:
• If you only know approximate dates, put Abt. before the date or Bet. if there is a range of dates.
• Put as much information as you know about a location. If you think it could be two (or more) places, just put OR between each place.
• The country should be all in capitals, and the state should be the two letter abbreviation if it is a U.S. State.
• If you run out of room, use the back. Please put either the box number or name of the person you are continuing so that I know who the information is for.
• If the last name of a person is unknown you may leave a blank space or write UNKNOWN for their last name.
• When filling in the Pedigree Chart: for entering dates, use the format of: Day Month Year, the month should be the first three letters of the month; for entering locations, use the format of: City (County) State, COUNTRY.
• When filling in the Family Group Sheet: for entering locations, use the boxes to guide you through what goes where. The location box is there for anything that is not a city/county/state/country, such as a cemetery, hospital or home. Don’t worry about how much you do and do not know. Any information you can give me is a step in the right direction.

Instructions for Filling out a Pedigree Chart

• Start with yourself or one of your children. Please do not include information on anyone living, except for names.
• The husband always goes in the even numbered box, and the wife always goes in the odd numbered box.
• Fill in as much information as you can for everyone on the chart, but don’t be afraid to leave a box blank. Follow the guidelines stated below under General Instructions for Both Charts.
• If you have generations that will not fit on the page, then use a fresh page and start with the last generation on your first page to start the fresh page. For example, if you know the parents of number 8 on your first page, use person number 8 in box number 1 on your new page.
• When you have filled in as much information as you can, then proceed to the Family Group Sheets.
